ABOUT THIS WEBSITE
Dr Julia Wilmott is a textile designer, educator and researcher who has worked in the fashion and textiles Industry for twenty years. After a decade of working as a knitwear designer for many brands in the United Kingdom, Julia moved into academia. She began teaching knitwear design for fashion at the undergraduate level while undertaking research into knitted textiles for sustainability concurrently. Julia has recently completed a practice-based doctorate in knitted textiles, specifically examining how knitted textiles methods can improve the tactility of a number of different wool fibres that are available but often under-utilised due to their perceived itchy handle. Julia's research examines how fibres can be blended together by patterns and structures created on the knitting machine in order to enhance the longevity and use of each fibre type in the future. This website is a record of each of the samples created throughout the PhD practice. Every sample created is photographed and sorted into pattern and structure types. Please enjoy browsing the samples. You can contact Julia at juliamarywilmott@gmail.com with any questions.
